We recently returned from New York City, where we had the privilege of photographing Strategic Hotels & Resorts’ annual Awards Gala at the breathtaking Waldorf Astoria. Few venues can match the elegance and history of this iconic hotel, and it provided the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable evening orchestrated by event planning consultant Kaleidoscope Vue Consulting.
This marked our third year capturing this special event, which has traditionally been part of Strategics’ multi-day conference. While this year’s gathering was a one-night affair, Wayne Harth, Principal of Kaleidoscope Vue Consulting, made the most of the legendary setting and once again delivered an extraordinary experience. Wayne has an incredible talent for creating memorable events, and his attention to detail makes our job easy—beautiful moments seem to unfold naturally in front of our cameras.
His vision for the evening was particularly creative. Guests were guided through the Waldorf Astoria, experiencing the grandeur of the property without feeling as though they were on a formal tour. Along the way, they encountered thoughtfully designed photo opportunities, beginning with a step-and-repeat near the entrance and culminating in the hotel’s magnificent Grand Ballroom for the evening’s main celebration.
The atmosphere was timeless—elegant, candlelit, and reminiscent of the glamour of the 1930s. After undergoing an extensive renovation that carefully preserved its historic character, the Waldorf Astoria has now been reopened for about a year and continues to receive glowing reviews from visitors around the world.
Over the years, we’ve often asked Wayne why he continues to bring us across the country to photograph these events. His answer is always the same:
“Because photography is one less thing I have to worry about. You already know what I want, and I know you’ll deliver every time.”
Those words mean a great deal to us. Photography is about much more than cameras and equipment—it’s about trust. Knowing that a client can focus on their event because they have complete confidence in us is one of the greatest compliments we can receive.
As the years have passed, we’ve also had the opportunity to build friendships with many of the general managers and leadership teams throughout Strategics’ hotel portfolio. Seeing familiar faces, reconnecting with people we’ve come to know, and capturing them enjoying a well-deserved evening of celebration is always one of the highlights of these assignments.

Of course, staying at the Waldorf Astoria and experiencing New York City was a treat all to itself. While Jodi had visited before, this was my first trip to the Big Apple. We extended our stay to take in the sights, sounds, and energy of the city. Like so many first-time visitors, I was amazed by its sheer scale and the feeling that every block holds another story waiting to be discovered.
As we reflected on the trip, we were reminded once again how fortunate we are. Photography has taken us to places we never imagined, introduced us to remarkable people, and created friendships that extend far beyond a business relationship. Opportunities like this are not something we take for granted.
To all our clients—whether they are across the country or right here in Northwest Indiana—thank you for trusting us to tell your stories. It is a responsibility we cherish and never take lightly.
Our adventure continues, and we couldn’t be more grateful.
We hope you enjoy a few moments from this unforgettable evening at the spectacular Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City.
