Should You Order Prints and Photo Albums?

Our Album Company, called ZookBinders, has shared valuable information in a recent blog post about this topic. In short, their answer is YES – A Thousand Times Yes!

For generations, wedding photography has been about more than documenting a day; it’s been about preserving a story. Historically, for many generations, those memories live on as printed photographs in a professional wedding album. However, as the digital world has changed our relationship with images, people often wonder, should every couple have a professional wedding album?

Decade after decade, couples have flipped through carefully arranged wedding albums, reliving vows, stolen glances, family portraits, and tearful first dances. The wedding album was the final chapter of the wedding experience—a tangible heirloom passed down through time. Today, the immediacy and accessibility of digital files mean that a printed book isn’t the go-to; at times, it’s an afterthought. But, if we look deeper into the way we need to preserve images, a professional wedding album shouldn’t be the add-on, it should be the requirement to view and revisit the best images from a celebration.

Then and Now

A few decades ago, people had a very different relationship with photography. You couldn’t instantly view the images from your wedding day; you had to wait weeks, even months. The anticipation was part of the experience, and when the photos were finally ready, they were printed. There was no other option. Should every couple have a professional wedding album wasn’t a question; it was a given. The way you looked at your professional wedding photos was in an album. Those prints were treasured, often carefully arranged into albums by the photographer or the couple and proudly shared with friends and family over time. Albums where the way memories were re-lived, not just a tradition, but a necessity.

Today, the relationship is flipped. Images are everywhere, instantly. Guests share iPhone photos on social media before the couple has even finished their first dance. Friends scroll through wedding pictures before the newlyweds have seen a single professional image. As a result, when the polished, emotional, beautifully crafted images from the photographer finally arrive, they can feel… less eventful. Less valued. Less special. This isn’t to say professional wedding photography has lost its meaning, but digital-only delivery has changed how imagery is experienced. Albums are now one of the ways images can be appreciated, leaving some couples to question whether they must have a professional wedding album. While having an album is less urgent, it should NOT be overlooked.

Image ‘overwhelm’ is real. Images have meaning for a variety of reasons, quality often not being one of them. To create value, you need to cut through the quantity and curate the best images all in one place to ‘tell a story’. A photo book, or album is an emotional and historical keepsake.

Albums and Photobooks Make it Special

While the convenience of instant sharing has its place, there’s a major downside to relying on digital alone. We’ll talk about that in a bit. How people save and share imagery is directly influenced by the accessibility, the volume, and even the editing options available to anyone with a smartphone. Images are everywhere, and rarely does anyone miss a photo op. Even in this image-heavy digital world, should every couple have a professional wedding album? If you want your most meaningful memories to truly stand apart in a world of constant scrolling, the answer is yes.

In addition to the physical experience of being able to see images in print, clients can customize their professional wedding album with different cover styles and materials to create something that matches their personal style. Albums don’t have to be boring. If a couple thinks that getting an album means a black leather book with their names on it, they should be happily surprised to find out all the ways they can customize their first family heirloom.
